Walk and Talk Therapy
Let’s meet your therapy goals while in nature to help you reduce anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms, relieve stress, and connect to something larger than ourselves.
If virtual sessions are not appealing for you, you prefer to meet outside where you can enjoy nature, or if you are looking for a motivator to get out of the house and move your body, then Walk and Talk Therapy may be a good fit for you.
You can join me at one of two local parks:
The Tanner Walking Path offers a serene walk in downtown Carrollton, behind Tanner Hospital. The path winds around a large pond, home to Geese and a Great Blue Heron, and has several paths that are shaded by a canopy of trees. The path is gravel and has exposed tree roots, so is not accessible for mobility aids. There are several benches on which to sit and rest.
The Hobbs Farm Loop on the Carrollton Greenbelt offers a concrete path through the forest, making it an excellent option for those who use mobility aids or prefer a smooth, easy-going path. There are walkways that extend out to the river and marsh, which make excellent places to spot local wildlife friends.
Know Before You Go
Before we begin our Walk and Talk sessions, we will need to meet virtually for three sessions to make sure we are a good fit for one another. I will send you a Walk and Talk consent form and release to complete, and then we can start at the park of your choosing.
Walk and Talk Therapy will be in a public setting. This means that, while I will do my absolute best to protect your confidentiality during our sessions, we may encounter other people during our sessions. If this is a concern for you, please consider virtual sessions instead.
I offer 50-minute sessions for Walk and Talk Therapy sessions. I recommend you bring with you: a cell phone, water, snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, layers (for warmth and/or rain), a comfortable pair of walking shoes, mobility aid if necessary, allergy medications, and any medications you may need.
I offer Walk and Talk Therapy when temperatures are above 37° and below 90°. I continue to offer sessions during the rain (my favorite!). If the temperature falls below 37° or rises above 89°, or if there is lightening, we will switch to a virtual session for safety.
I strive to be accessible for every body. However, if there is a physical health, medical risk, or emotional safety reason that would not make Walk and Talk Therapy a good option for you, please let me know. We can also find quiet spaces in the parks to sit and hold our sessions, or hold our sessions virtually outside if that works for you. I want to adapt to your needs and make sure that you are also safe!
Unfortunately, pets and children will not be permitted on our Walk and Talk Therapy sessions. I love pets and children and understand that sometimes childcare can be difficult to find. However, having pets and children present can distract from the therapeutic process, and I want to make sure that you get as much as possible from our time together.
